Tour Overview
This 9-day Northern Tanzania expedition brings together some of the region’s most remarkable landscapes and wildlife experiences in one carefully paced journey. From the elephant-rich plains and ancient baobabs of Tarangire, to the forests and lakeshores of Lake Manyara, the extraordinary wildlife concentration of Ngorongoro Crater, and the volcanic landscapes of Lake Natron, every stage introduces a different side of Tanzania. The journey then continues deep into Serengeti, moving from the central plains toward the remote northern wilderness, where guests spend two nights immersed in the landscape. Accompanied by a professional private safari guide, the adventure concludes with a cultural experience in Mto wa Mbu before returning to Arusha.
Your journey begins in the morning with a pickup from your hotel in Arusha, where you will meet your professional private safari guide and set off toward Tarangire National Park. As the city gives way to countryside, the scenery gradually transforms into open savannah, acacia woodland and the magnificent baobab landscapes that characterize Tarangire. Upon entering the park, begin your first game drive, with your guide introducing you to the wildlife, vegetation and seasonal rhythms of this remarkable ecosystem.
Spend the day exploring Tarangire, known for its impressive elephant herds and diverse wildlife. Along the way, look out for giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, antelopes, monkeys and an abundance of birdlife, while keeping an eye out for predators. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the park before continuing your afternoon game drive. Later, leave Tarangire and continue toward Karatu, where you will check into your lodge and enjoy a relaxing evening.

After breakfast, depart Karatu with your safari guide for Lake Manyara National Park, descending into the spectacular Great Rift Valley. The park offers a remarkable contrast to Tarangire, with groundwater forests, woodland, open grassland and the expansive lake creating a variety of habitats within a relatively compact area. During your game drive, your guide will help you discover elephants, giraffes, buffalo, zebras, baboons, monkeys, hippos and numerous bird species, with the lakeshore providing particularly interesting opportunities for birdwatching.
After exploring the park, continue with a guided canoeing experience, subject to suitable water levels, weather and local availability. Paddling quietly across the water provides a completely different perspective of the surrounding landscape and allows you to appreciate the peaceful atmosphere of the lake. After the activity, continue toward Karatu for your overnight stay and a relaxing evening in the highlands.

Rise early for breakfast before setting out toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. With your safari guide, ascend toward the crater rim, where the landscape suddenly opens into an extraordinary view across the vast caldera. Descend into the crater for a full-day game drive, exploring its grasslands, wetlands and woodland while your guide shares insights into the animals and the unique ecosystem that exists within this natural enclosure.
The crater provides an exceptional opportunity to encounter a wide range of wildlife in a single day, including lions, elephants, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, hippos and hyenas, with the possibility of seeing the endangered black rhino. Enjoy a picnic lunch within the crater before continuing your exploration through the afternoon. Later, ascend and continue toward the Lake Natron area, beginning the transition from the lush crater highlands to the dramatic landscapes of the Great Rift Valley.

Begin early with a Lake Natron experience, perhaps visiting the lake's flamingo areas or enjoying a guided nature walk, depending on seasonal conditions. After breakfast, begin the scenic journey toward Ndutu, traveling through the Rift Valley and transitioning gradually into the southern Serengeti ecosystem.
Arrive in Ndutu later in the day and, if time and road conditions allow, enjoy an introductory game drive around the area. Ndutu is especially renowned for its seasonal wildebeest and zebra concentrations and excellent predator viewing. Settle into your camp for dinner and your first night in the southern Serengeti ecosystem.

After breakfast, begin your first full journey into Serengeti National Park. Your safari guide will turn the drive into a game-viewing experience, taking advantage of opportunities to stop for wildlife and scenic viewpoints along the way. As you enter the Serengeti, the landscape opens dramatically into endless grasslands dotted with rocky kopjes and scattered acacia trees.
Continue with an afternoon game drive as you make your way toward your accommodation. Watch for wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, gazelles, buffalo and elephants, while your guide searches for signs of predator activity. Depending on the season and wildlife movements, you may encounter lions, cheetahs or hyenas. Arrive at your camp or lodge in the evening and enjoy dinner beneath the Serengeti sky.

Today is dedicated to exploring Central Serengeti, one of the park's most productive wildlife regions. After breakfast, set out with your safari guide for a full-day game drive, carrying a picnic lunch so you can spend more time in the wilderness without having to return to camp during the middle of the day.
The central plains offer excellent opportunities to search for big cats and other resident wildlife. Your guide will follow fresh tracks, animal movements and seasonal activity while introducing you to the smaller details that are easy to miss without local knowledge. Enjoy time around the famous kopjes, open plains and wildlife-rich areas before continuing your afternoon safari. As the sun begins to lower, return to your accommodation for dinner and another night surrounded by the sounds of the Serengeti.

Accommodation: Shuhudia Adventure Camp
After breakfast, begin your journey from Central Serengeti toward the Northern Serengeti, combining a scenic transfer with continuous opportunities for wildlife viewing. As you travel north, the character of the landscape gradually changes, becoming more rugged and remote, with rocky outcrops, wooded areas and riverine environments creating new habitats for wildlife.
Your safari guide will make strategic stops along the way whenever wildlife activity presents an opportunity. Depending on the season, this region can offer encounters with large wildebeest and zebra herds and, at certain times of year, spectacular river-crossing activity. Even outside the migration season, Northern Serengeti offers excellent resident wildlife and a feeling of true wilderness. Arrive at your northern camp in the evening and enjoy a peaceful dinner in this remote corner of the park.

Wake early for a full day of exploration in Northern Serengeti. With your safari guide, venture deeper into the northern ecosystem, following wildlife activity around the plains, rocky landscapes and river systems. The quieter character of this region allows you to experience Serengeti from a more remote perspective, away from the busier central areas.
Depending on the season, the day may bring opportunities to observe large herds, predators and other wildlife around the northern river systems. Your guide will adapt the route according to the day's conditions, allowing plenty of time for photography, observation and simply taking in the scale of the landscape. Enjoy a picnic lunch during the day's exploration before returning to camp in the late afternoon for your final Serengeti evening.

After an early breakfast, begin your final morning with a short game drive as you leave the Northern Serengeti behind. Your safari guide will take advantage of the cooler morning hours for one last opportunity to encounter wildlife before beginning the journey south toward Mto wa Mbu. The changing scenery provides a final opportunity to appreciate the enormous diversity of landscapes experienced throughout the safari.
On reaching Mto wa Mbu, enjoy a cultural experience with a local guide, discovering everyday community life through local farms, traditional foods, crafts and small businesses. After the experience, continue to Arusha with your safari guide, arriving later in the afternoon.
