TOUR OVERVIEW
Experience seven extraordinary days of wildlife photography across Tanzania’s most iconic northern landscapes. From the elephant-filled wilderness and ancient baobabs of Tarangire National Park, travel into the seasonal plains of Ndutu, where wildebeest, zebra and predators create exceptional photographic opportunities, before spending quality time in the vast Serengeti National Park. The safari concludes with an immersive game drive inside the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, renowned for its remarkable concentration of wildlife.
Your photographic adventure begins in Arusha with an early morning departure toward Tarangire National Park. The journey takes you through the countryside before entering a landscape characterized by enormous baobabs, open savannah and seasonal wetlands.
After entering the park, begin your first game drive with your camera ready for elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffalo and an impressive variety of birds. Tarangire's distinctive scenery provides excellent opportunities for wide-angle landscape photography as well as intimate wildlife portraits.
As afternoon approaches, position yourself for the softer golden light. Elephants moving beneath baobabs, silhouettes against the evening sky and wildlife gathering around water can create some of the safari's strongest images.
MAIN DESTINATION: Tarangire National Park
ACCOMMODATION: Fanaka Lodge
MEALS: Lunch, Dinner and Drinking Water
Wake early for a final photographic game drive in Tarangire, taking advantage of the cooler morning temperatures and active wildlife.
After breakfast, depart toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and continue toward the Ndutu plains. The landscape gradually changes from woodland and baobab country into the open short-grass plains associated with the southern Serengeti ecosystem.
Upon arrival in Ndutu, enjoy an afternoon game drive around the plains, lakes and woodland areas. Depending on the season, you may encounter wildebeest, zebra, gazelles, lions, cheetahs, hyenas and other resident wildlife.
Ndutu is particularly valuable for photographers during the December–April migration period, when the plains become an important calving area and predator activity can be exceptional.
MAIN DESTINATION: Ndutu Area
ACCOMMODATION: Lake Ndutu Safari Lodge
MEALS: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Drinking Water
The early hours offer some of the best conditions for photography: soft light, active predators and wildlife moving across the open plains. Your guide will monitor animal behavior and carefully position the vehicle to allow time for photography rather than simply moving from sighting to sighting.
Explore the areas around Lake Ndutu, Lake Masek, open grasslands and woodland habitats, searching for predator-prey interactions and large herbivore gatherings.
During migration season, the area can become particularly dramatic, with wildebeest and zebra concentrated on the short-grass plains and predators following the herds.
Enjoy a picnic lunch in the wilderness before continuing your photographic exploration throughout the afternoon.
The late afternoon provides another opportunity for golden-hour images before returning to camp.
MAIN DESTINATION: Ndutu Area
ACCOMMODATION: Lake Ndutu Safari Lodge
MEALS: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Drinking Water
After an early breakfast, begin your journey toward the heart of the Serengeti. Rather than treating the transfer simply as a travel day, your guide will conduct a game drive route, allowing opportunities to stop whenever interesting wildlife or photographic scenes appear.
Cross the dramatic Serengeti landscape toward the Seronera /Central Serengeti region, one of the park's most productive wildlife areas.
After arriving at camp and enjoying lunch, head out for an afternoon photographic game drive. Search the kopjes, grasslands and river valleys for lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, giraffes and large herbivore herds.
The changing landscapes provide excellent opportunities for both wildlife portraits and environmental photography.
MAIN DESTINATION: Central Serengeti
ACCOMMODATION: Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge
MEALS: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Drinking Water
This is your dedicated full-day photography session in the Serengeti.
Leave camp early with a packed breakfast or picnic lunch and spend the day exploring different habitats according to wildlife movements and your photographic interests.
The Seronera region is famous for its year-round wildlife and is particularly rewarding for photographers searching for lions, leopards and cheetahs. Rocky kopjes also provide dramatic compositions, while the open plains allow photographers to capture animals against expansive backgrounds.
Your guide will give priority to behavior photography—hunting, resting, social interaction, territorial behavior, grooming and movement—rather than simply collecting species sightings.
Return to camp around sunset after another extended photographic session
MAIN DESTINATION: Central Serengeti
ACCOMMODATION: Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge
MEALS: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Drinking Water
Begin the morning with a final game drive in the Serengeti. This is another opportunity to photograph wildlife in the beautiful early light before beginning the journey toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
Travel through the Serengeti plains toward the Ngorongoro Highlands, with opportunities for wildlife viewing and scenic photography along the way.
As you approach the crater highlands, the landscape changes dramatically from open savannah to cooler, greener highland scenery.
Arrive at your accommodation near the crater rim in the afternoon. Take time to rest, organize your photographs and prepare your equipment for the following day's crater photography.
MAIN DESTINATION: Ngorongoro Conservation Area
ACCOMMODATION: Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge
MEALS: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Drinking Water
Rise early for the descent into the Ngorongoro Crater, entering the crater floor while the morning light is still soft.
The crater provides an exceptional concentration of wildlife within a dramatic volcanic landscape. Spend several hours exploring its grasslands, wetlands, woodland and open plains while searching for lions, elephants, buffalo, hippos, hyenas, zebras, wildebeest and, with luck, the endangered black rhinoceros.
For photographers, the crater offers a completely different photographic experience from Ndutu and Serengeti: wildlife can be photographed against the crater's enormous walls, open grasslands and beautiful natural backdrops.
Enjoy a picnic lunch before beginning the ascent from the crater.
Continue to Arusha in the afternoon, marking the end of your seven-day photographic safari.
